Lots going on these days, and fear and uncertainty can easily distract us from the true nature of reality. So here’s the latest news I found interesting and telling of the state of the world (and I am referring to more than just the economic situation, though that is obviously a part of it):
- 1 in every 3 toys toxic: “researchers tested more than 1,500 popular toys for lead, cadmium, arsenic, PVC and other harmful chemicals and said they found that one-third of the toys contain “medium” or “high” levels of chemicals of concern.” Don’t be trapped in despair…get healthy toys.
- Bottled water contains disinfection byproducts, fertilizer residue, and pain medication, so best to not waste your money and the plastic, etc.
So, in case you missed that, we have created a commercial system that is poisoning our children (ie our future) and our water supply (ie the essential ingredient for life as we know it). Is it any wonder we have an economy in a tailspin? Speaking of which…
- A tweet from Tim O’Reilly summed up the new reality: “If Google gears for tougher times, the party’s really over” (more)
- Auto executives want $34 Billion by offering a “plan” while I can’t get a Line of Credit for $75k for ifPeople from my bank without financing half of it myself.
Perhaps the news has got you asking yourself, when should I quit? If so, consider joining the conversation with other social entrepreneurs at Social Edge. There is a lot to think about, most notably, what motivates you and what you aspire to. The debaucherous party is clearly over. No more $100M bonuses for loan crooks, no more $100M bonuses for bank execs, no more fantasy that resources are unlimited and the stock market always goes up. But the game goes on, that is the point of life after all. It’s time to get serious about building the community, commercial relationships, and products that make the world a more beautiful and loving place.
